Life is a challenge, for some more than the others. What would you do as a visual artist if you lost the ability to see? Well, challenges are just that: challenges… and we need to find a way to overcome them. When someone is a photographer, we right away think that they must be working with their visual senses to capture images, to tell a story through their photographs. What happens when the photographer is visually impaired or blind?

It turns out they still manage to find a way to continue working in their field. Recently, I was listening to an interview with one of Flickr members who has recently lost his vision, but that did not stop him from enjoying photography. His name is Alex de Jong from Rotterdam in the Netherlands. He is also a member of Blindphotographers.org. Their site features a blog and a gallery where you can view their works online. When you have a look at their blog, you will find some very interesting articles like “Shooting Street as a Blind Photographer” or “Could visual impairment actually be an advantage in photography?”. It is pretty incredible, what we can overcome and how we can continue working in the field we love the most!
