It does not matter where you turn online last night and today, we all drawing in CES coverage from hundreds of blogs, twitter feeds and of course live TV and online TV broadcasts, podcasts and other sources. In fact I have been streaming so much of it, I am going blow my bandwidth limits this month. Unfortunately Canadian ISP Rogers has limits of 60GB of bandwidth a month for their cable customers. Last month, I barely made it under limit with 57.7 GB. I do not think I will lucky this month… I got stop watching so much online streaming video feeds! But it is a special week, CES week!
CES is dominated by the latest and greatest in new HD TV’s, it seems like the newest trend is watching and broadcasting TV in 3D which frankly will take a long time for people embrace. 3D technology has been around for number of years, yet it failed miserably in the movie theatres so far and in my personal opinion, it will fail at the consumer level as well. I do not see myself wearing special glasses just to watch TV at home. Until there is some brilliant, new way of displaying 3D without glasses most people will stay away from it. It just does not seem to be practical for most. Nevertheless the new HD TV’s pack some interesting new concepts, mostly embracing internet content connected to the TV via Wi-Fi. ‘In the near future your TV will be fully connected to the internet with lots of great applications. You may be able to tweet, Skype and use Facebook with family and friends etc. directly from your TV. Streaming HD content to many TV’s across the house using Wi-Fi enable set-top boxes among many other innovative technologies. The future looks like a lot of fun…
In a nutshell the trend seems to be for the current online applications we use daily to start crossing from our computers into consumer electronics like TV’s, Blu-ray players among others. As usual everything is also getting much thinner and lighter as companies advance their designs and pack more in smaller packages. For example some of the new Samsung TV’s are only 6mm thick! It will be interesting to see how many of these products actually make it to our local electronic store and at what prices but there is one thing for sure… technology is changing exponentially.
