A little inspiration for your life…

Aug26
Last night I came across an awesome post, it is called ’50 Ways to Get Your Life in Order’. Here are a few of my favourite points, which I have done over the recent months and years:
“Remove elements of negativity from your life, be they people or a job you don’t want to do. If you have friends who are bringing you down, there’s no need to keep hanging out with them out of obligation. Cut your ties and cut your losses.”
“Add vitamin pills to your daily diet. Vitamin supplements can help reduce the possibility of cancer and osteoporosis, among other disorders.”
“Work out a clear exercise plan with an activity that you enjoy such as dancing or biking. My girlfriend loves yoga, and I am a soccer enthusiast. As long as it’s active, it counts.”
“Practice breathing exercises or meditation. Stress can have an overarching effect on our overall productivity levels. When stressed, I personally forget to breathe at times. Take the time to take deep breaths and improve oxygen flow to the brain.”
“Spend more time outdoors. Nature has an ability to help soothe a troubled mind and clear your thoughts. Taking a walk in the woods or climbing a mountain, at any level of difficulty, gives a sense of pride and accomplishment.”
“Clear some time each day to do nothing. As a child, I remember that we had “free time” scheduled into our school activities every day. This could be used for reading, drawing, or simply staring into space if that’s what we felt like doing. What a novel idea, and one that keeps the brain at ease.”
“Drink at least 6 cups of water per day. Staying hydrated helps keep energy levels up.”
The list is long and there is something for everyone. Check out ‘50 Ways to Get Your Life in Order’ for other ideas which may suit you and improve your life.

“When we develop patience, we find that we develop a reserve of calm and tranquility. We tend to be less antagonistic and more pleasant to associate with. This creates a positive atmosphere around us and it is easy for others to relate to us. Better grounded emotionally through patience, we become stronger mentally and spiritually, and tend to be healthier physically.”
- His Holiness the Dalai Lama
This is very much true, I used to very impatient. Over the years I slowly trained myself to let it go, to breath, stay calm which added my own sanity in often the insane world we all live nowadays. Being patient has changed me… like many other Buddhist teachings I was lucky to receive from my Buddhist teacher. Thank you, I am full of gratitude for it today.

I do not say this often, but when I saw that I said to myself: “Jealous!”
Architect David Hertz is building Francie Rehwald the home of her dreams: an eco-friendly house on 55 acres in the remote hills of Malibu, California.
Called the Wing House, the structure is being built using a commercial Boeing 747-200. We first reported the plans for the house back in 2005. But the structure requires FAA approval as to not be mistaken for a crash site.

Boeing 747's are enormous pieces of modern transportation. Measuring 230 feet in length and 63 feet tall, the aircraft has over 17,000 cubic feet of cargo room. That's a lot of house! Which is why the “house”– using almost all of the 395,000 pound plane–is spread over seven different structures.

Motion Blur photography is awesome, often difficult to do it, but the results are amazing… below are some fantastic examples. Makes you want to grab your camera and run with it outside!
The world seems to pass us by at a million miles a minute. All we want to do is to stop and catch our breath, to try and freeze time and enjoy the present moment. Motion blur photography tries to captures this idea of movement through time. The most interesting photos that use this technique keep the subject in focus while blurring out the rest of the scene. This is achieved by using a slow shutter speed and by panning the camera to track those moving objects. This effect can also created by post-editing software such as Photoshop.

Ah, thank you the internets for this and many other cool online drawing tools:
Flame is an experimental online drawing tool that you can use to make stuff like this…

Or this dragon, probably a better representative example. Fun to play around with for a few minutes. (thx, sue)

What an amazing day we had today! It was 14C and nothing but sun all day… Spring is just around the corner and I can smell it. Since it was so beautiful outside, I decided to dust off my DSLR camera (it has been collecting dust for most of winter) and took to the streets. I have been thinking about getting back to my roots – Streets Photography for a while now – so today I went for a practice run. I got around 40 decent shots, but the main reason was to try it all out, to see how I feel on the street while I am sticking my lens into strangers faces.
After couple of hours of walking, I am glad I did it. There is no question that I am a little rusty and out practice, after all it has been a long time since I did. But I will make it my 2010 goal to be out and about like I did it years ago, practice and have fun with it. It should be a lot of fun this time as I am working not only with the new set up but also new postproduction software as well. I will post a few photos over the next few days once I have done some work on them. For now – I am just glad to be out again with the camera…

Here are some steps to maintain a healthy level of insanity today (Friday):
1. At lunch time, sit in your parked car with sunglasses on and point a hair dryer at passing cars. See if they slow down.
2. Page yourself over the Intercom. Don’t disguise your voice!
3. Every time someone asks you to do something, ask “if they want fries with that?”.
4. Put Decaf in the coffee maker for three weeks. Once everyone has gotten over their caffeine addictions, switch to Espresso.
5. In the memo field of all your checks, write “For Marijuana”
6. Skip down the hall rather than walk and see how many looks you get.
7. Order a diet water whenever you go out to eat, with a serious face.
8. Specify that your drive-through order is “To Go“.
9. Sing along at the opera.
10. Five days in advance, tell your friends you can’t attend their party because you have a headache.
11. When the money comes out the ATM, scream ‘I Won! I Won!’
12. When leaving the Zoo, start running towards the parking lot, yelling ‘Run For Your Lives! They’re Loose!‘
13. Tell your children over dinner, ‘Due to the economy, we are going to have to let one of you go.’
…and final way to keep a healthy level of insanity:
14. Pick up a box of condoms at the pharmacy, go the counter and ask where are the fitting rooms…
Enjoy The Ride, Life is Short!

A little photography inspiration for myself and others who want to focus just little more this year on street and documentary photography:
About five or six years ago, the guys behind the Hamburger Eyes photo happenings in San Francisco (Dave and Ray, and the photographers around them) really opened my eyes to a photo-based lifestyle that was (and still is) so alive and real and super-attractive in an honest, often not so glamorous way. Fueled by passion, and a desire to have fun and document real life, they publish great raw photography in their almost wordless magazine, and they make it affordable. They throw wild kick-ass parties with photography literally covering nearly every inch of wall space. Every person in the crowds at their parties could be living, walking, talking and dancing photographs themselves. This short video just came to my attention and took me on a happy time trip back to the buzzy excitement they created. If you like your photography rough and funky, tough and goofy and honest, check it out.

I came across this site called WNYC Street Shots with some great interviews of people who are passionate about street photography in New York City. It has been awhile since I have done street photography in the city, after watching all those videos and some of the shots taken by these guys, it made want to get back to it. May be next year, when I have some time I will explore it and get back to it. I really like black and white street documentary, shot from the hip. I think it will a lot of fun to do it.
I was really taken by the interview with the non-nonsese approach to street photography by Bruce Gilden. Frankly, I admire him and his ability to stick the camera with a flash into someone’s face, complete stranger on the street, especially in a city like New York. But than again if you live there, nothing would really surprise you anyway… His style definitely stands out, which is hard thing to do nowadays in photography. He is old school and hardcore, there are not that many people out there left who take street photography to this level!
For now, I may stick with the idea of shooting street with a longer lens, I don’t think I am brave enough for any super close contacts. But I am willing to experiment… who know where this little inspiration I came across will take me. There is so much to do in the coming year! I am already excited! In the meantime check out WNYC Street Shots for some inspiration.
