Wide-angle photos of the Sagrada Familia by Clement Celma

The incredible interior of the iconic Barcelona church Sagrada Família is revealed in these wide-angle photos by photographer Clement Celma. Construction of the Sagrada Família, known formally as the Basílica i Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família, was started in 1882. In 1883 Spanish architect Antoni Gaudí took over the project, radically redesigning the church in his own style. Gaudí was still working on the church when he died in 1926. The church is still under construction.

In the ’70s, the now 71-year-old Toyo Ito combined words ‘urban’ and ‘robot’ into Urbot for his studio’s name in Japan, beginning a decades-long journey to career prominence. He’s labeled as a pioneer of conceptual architecture, a design approach that’s inspired by ideas external to the industry’s traditional guiding principles. As this year’s recipient of the highest honor in architecture — the Pritzker Prize — Ito’s vision in creating buildings for public environments is always forward-thinking. ’I will never fix my architectural style and never be satisfied with my works,’ he states in the official announcement of the award.

    sidewebs

In the project ‘Stranger Visions,’ artist Heather Dewey-Hagborg creates portrait sculptures of people she has never met, based solely on their DNA. To create the sculptures, she extracted DNA from gum, cigarettes, hair, and other samples she collected in public places. She then used software to translate the DNA into computer models and ultimately, 3D printed sculptures.

Here’s a photo tribute to all the brave firefighters battling recent fires that threaten thousands of homes and lives this spring.

In Southern California, firefighters expect to fully contain by this afternoon the latest wildfire that’s scorched 44 square miles of mountainous territory. According to investigators, arson was ruled out as the cause of the fire and an accidental roadside ignition may have initially lit the blaze, which is one of over 600 wildfires endured by California so far this year.

    Vertical Horizons by Romain Jacquet-Lagreze

In the photo book Vertical Horizon, French photographer Romain Jacquet-Lagreze captures the soaring architecture of Hong Kong, often by pointing his camera straight up. The book is available for purchase online.

Vertical Horizon is a photographic journey between the buildings of a relentlessly growing city. It is a deep immersion into the city’s thick atmospheres and a visual record of its wildly diverse built environment. This book is like a contemplative dive into the raw nature of Hong Kong and an expression of its vertical elan.

Just take in the incredible detail of the Alien’s neck, the neatly stacked busts of The Ramones, and the posed women by sculptor extraordinaire Susanne Ruseler.
